Teacher Appreciation Day
Walailak University students attended the Teacher Appreciation Day (Wai Kru Day) for Academic Year 2019
On July 18, 2019, Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, was the president of ceremony of the Teacher’s Day Ceremony for the 2019 academic year. Students, administrative board, and division of student affairs of Walailak University arranged the Teacher’s Day Ceremony to show appreciation and gratitude to their teachers. More than 1,500 students in Walailak University participated in this ceremony where the student representatives offered flowers to the teachers to convey love and respect.
The president addressed at the ceremony that the custom is distinctive to Thai culture and that the tradition is uncommon in Western society.
“Teacher Appreciation Ceremony is one of the most important days in Thai tradition. Thai culture reveres and puts great importance to teachers who dedicate their lives to teach students and help them to succeed and prosper. In the ceremony since the olden days, there are 3 symbolic flowers “Burmuda Grass” which symbolizes wishing for the student to learn as fast as the grass, which can resistantly grow and adapt to any environment. “Ixora flowers” or “needle flowers” represent sharp wit and intelligent as a needle. The third symbolic flower is the Turkey burry flower which turns upside down when it blooms. It symbolizes humility and respect.
Walailak University will serve as the fountain of knowledge for students who commit to lifelong learning and be disciplined in the classroom and be proactive learners. We wish our students to have virtue and talent based on 4 principles: gratitude, discipline, volunteering, and leadership.
May all students behave to their teachers and take this opportunity to appreciate all your teachers including parents who have taught, trained and cared for you. May all students succeed in your studies and in life on Campus. On behalf of all the teachers of Walailak University. “I greet you all as our students”

Prof. Dr. Sittichai Koontongkaew, Acting Dean of the International College of Dentistry, Dr. Boonnaur Yongvanichakorn, Instructor of International Dental College and first-year dental students attended the ceremony.
