Walailak University's Loy Krathong Festival 2020

Loy Krathong Festival 2020

Loy Krathong is a famous Thai festival which originated in Sukhothai and is celebrated every year. Loy Krathong literally means “to float a basket.” These baskets come in different shapes and forms but are primarily made from banana leaves decorated with flowers and candles. Often times, coins are placed in the basket to bribe the great water goddess to help in removing bad memories. The ritual of “releasing the basket” symbolizes letting go of negativity and the floats carry away the bad energy. The person releasing the float will hopefully start the new year fresh and anew.

During this celebration, many pageants are held. This year one student in the International College of Dentistry, International Program, Miss Pasboonyasiri Umpunsu “Praew,” placed 2nd runner up in the Loy Krathong Festival at Walailak University. Congratulations Praew!
